Try crafting these simple DIY fabric pumpkins, which require just a few craft supplies. For all you crafters and seamstresses out there, this project is an excellent way to use up leftover fabric scraps.
Materials for Fabric Pumpkins:
- Fabric
- Scissors
- Stuffing
- Rubber band or hair tie
- Twine
- Hot glue gun
- Burlap
Steps to Craft Fabric Pumpkins:
- Lay fabric, pretty side down, on the table.
- Use a pencil to draw a large circle on the back of the fabric. If you need guidance, you can use a ruler or various circular objects found around the house, such as the top of a stool, the circumference of a large bowl, a plate, or even a popcorn tin.
- Carefully cut along the penciled circle line.
- Add stuffing to the center on the fabric circle.
- Pull the fabric up, piece by piece, over the stuffing and gather it together at the top.
- Once all the edges are pulled together at the top, use a hair tie or rubber band to secure them together. Double-check to ensure that all the edges are tucked into the hair tie to prevent any holes.
- Examine the fabric stem and trim off any uneven pieces. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but having a relatively flat top will make it easier.
Stem Creation:
- Cut a piece of twine approximately 12 inches long.
- Apply a small dot of hot glue near the bottom of the fabric stem and secure one end of the twine to it.
- Wrap the twine around the fabric stem, completely covering the fabric beneath. When you reach the top of the stem, secure it with another dab of hot glue.
- Apply hot glue to the top of the stem, and carefully spiral the twine from the outside in. Use a pencil to gently press the twine into the glue, securing it to the fabric.
- Trim off any excess twine.Â
Creating the Pumpkin Leaf:
- Cut a small square from the burlap.
- Use a pencil to sketch a leaf design on the burlap and then carefully cut it out.
- Attach the burlap leaf to the pumpkin using hot glue.
Crafter’s Tips:
- If you don’t have stuffing on hand, you can dismantle old pillows or repurpose old, stained clothing materials or newspaper.
- In the absence of rubber bands or hair ties, you can use twine to secure the pumpkin.
- To add more texture, consider wrapping twine around the pumpkin to create decorative lines.
Voilà ! You’ve now crafted a charming DIY fabric pumpkin for this Fall season. These adorable pumpkins make fantastic gifts for teachers, family, and friends! Happy Fall Friends!
