Henry is the perfect model for this month’s craft.  I can still remember the oohs and ahhs from the doctors and nurses in the delivery room upon seeing his bright red hair.  We thought for sure his hair would change color as he grew but nope! From his deep blue eyes to his auburn locks, the Irish gene is strong in this one!  Did you know that blue-eyed redheads are the rarest in the world? Only  0.17% of the population has that combination of hair and eye color!

The smock that I usually use for painting was dirty. Instead, I used one of his regular Mushie bibs. I looked forever for a good bib and these silicone bibs are waterproof and still going strong after a year of daily use!  I’ve also done this project without a bib and while paint did get on his clothes, it came right out in the wash.

He loved painting with the leftover paint while I cleaned up.  Yes, he did put the foam brush in his mouth but because it tastes awful he took it right out and because the paint is non-toxic, I didn’t worry.  I’ll link everything we used below.

Mushie Silicone Bib

Mushie Silicone Baby Bib

Made from food-grade silicone, these playful bibs are BPA and phthalate free.   They are easy to clean, resist stains, and do not absorb water. The directions say to wash with soap and leave to air dry but we have been putting them in the dishwasher for over a year and they are still good as new! We have also tried the PandaEar bibs which look identical and although they are cheaper, they are a bit thinner and don’t catch all the food.

Colorations Washable Tempera Paint, Set of 6 Colors, 8 oz. each, Non-Toxic Paint

I have been using this paint for years with kids. It’s non-toxic and washable and the colors are super vibrant. When I talk to other teachers, this is also their go-to brand. It’s not just me!

Not all glue sticks are created equal. In my 20+plus years of teaching, these are hands down the BEST glue sticks I have ever used.
